ARA Finance Group, a joint venture with Walker & Dunlop, provides a full range of financial services to our clients including conventional multifamily market rate financing and new construction lending for owners of affordable, manufactured, seniors and student housing.
We leverage our market expertise and relationships to streamline the brokerage process for multi-housing properties. We also use our partner Walker & Dunlop’s full suite of debt products, including Fannie Mae Multifamily Delegated Underwriting and Servicing (DUS), Freddie Mac, and Federal Housing Administration (FHA) programs. In addition, we and our partners provide broad access to a vast array of competitive capital sources seamlessly delivering comprehensive capital solutions for clients. For 2012, the combined volume of closed transactions was $19 billion for ARA and Walker & Dunlop.

Key Team Member
In his capacity as President and COO of ARA Finance, Tom is responsible for the strategic development of the venture’s national multifamily lending platform, which provides service through ARA offices located across the country. ARA Finance provides a full range of mortgage finance services to ARA clients, combining the strengths of ARA’s national multifamily investment sales platform with Walker & Dunlop’s national multifamily lending platform. ARA Finance has closed over $1.8 billion in financings since its inception in late 2009. In 2012, ARA Finance, collectively with its partners ARA and Walker & Dunlop, closed $17.5 billion in multifamily sales and financings.
Tom joins ARA Finance with 30 years of industry experience. He previously served as Executive Vice President and head of New York City-based Cushman & Wakefield‘s Debt & Equity Finance practice. He served in a leadership role in the firm’s acquisition of Sonnenblick Goldman in July of 2007 and was subsequently appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cushman & Wakefield Sonnenblick Goldman – the New York-based investment banking group. Prior to his positions at Cushman & Wakefield, Tom held various senior leadership positions during his nine year career with GMAC Commercial Mortgage Corp. (GMACCM) and seventeen years at Midlantic Bank (now PNC).
From 2003-2006 Tom served as President of GMACCM and CEO of its North American Operations where he managed seven lending platforms and a mortgage banking group with a $10 billion balance sheet and $22 billion in annual originations. These businesses provided customized solutions for the entire capital stack on virtually all asset classes of commercial real estate.
Prior to joining GMACCM, Tom was a Senior Vice President at Midlantic Bank headquartered in New Jersey. Tom was a member of the senior management team in Real Estate Banking with responsibilities covering all aspects of commercial real estate financing including mortgage warehousing.
